The Employers’ Group to participate in MedaWeek 2019

Under the title “A new dawn for the Mediterranean”, MedaWeek Barcelona 2019 is one of the largest global economy, trade and investment gatherings of corporate leaders, policymakers, businessmen, regional and international investors, entrepreneurs, leading academics and experts showcasing prevalent information, strategies and knowledge about Mediterranean economies and business opportunities. It is organised by ASCAME (Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry). As part of MedaWeek, the EESC Employers’ Group is organising, in cooperation with AFAEMME, an internal forum on “How can business promote sustainability?” on 21 November.

In this, the second decade of the 21st century, gender inequality remains a defining characteristic of European labor markets. Despite rising participation in the labor force, women’s careers remain concentrated in specific jobs and economic sectors; moreover, their career mobility and advancement though the ranks into management remain limited.

Educación y formación profesional en la región euromediterránea

Como presidenta del Comité de Seguimiento UE-Euromed en el Grupo de Empleadores del Comité Económico y Social Europeo he tenido la oportunidad de presidir el proyecto de documento informativo de la sección de Relaciones Exteriores titulado “Educación y formación profesional en la región euromeditereánea”. Cinzia del Rio ha sido la ponente encargada del dictamen, que se debatió el pasado 26 de febrero.

El Comité de Seguimiento Euromed del CESE ha resuelto centrar su atención en la situación de la educación y la formación profesional en la región euromediterránea, y presentar un análisis preliminar de la cuestión que podría utilizarse, en sus futuras actividades, para profundizar el diálogo y el intercambio regional.

Gender equality measures in Europe for leading positions in Companies

Many European countries succeeded in actually increasing the numbers of women in leading positions by introducing Gender Equality laws including gender quota regulations. But there are many different kinds of quotas with different binding character and effectiveness: quotas regulations are only efficient if appropriate sanctions hinder people from omitting the laws. Opponents of the idea of gender quotas doubt the effectiveness and fairness of them, whereas supporters hope that with the help of quotas, barriers and prejudices against women could be removed in the long-term.
